Roaming Shores-Walter Ross Samson, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on December 11, 2022. He was the son of Charles and Helen (MacDougall) Samson, born in Horseheads, NY on July 5, 1934. Walter married his high school sweetheart Joanne (Smith) Samson in 1955. Walter was a friendly, highly intelligent and inquisitive person who loved living at the lake and pulling off great pranks. Walter graduated from Syracuse University with an engineering degree in 1956 and received his Master’s Degree from Texas A&M University. He served his nation as an officer in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years. His postings led him to many global destinations and he thoroughly enjoyed exploring Europe and the Middle East with his family. After retirement, he joined the Parsons Company and lived in Saudi Arabia for over a decade before returning stateside and being assigned to a major project in Ashtabula. Walter and Joanne established a storybook home in Roaming Shores that hosted countless fun family events each year. Walter is survived by his three sons Bryan (Connie), Mark (Vera), Scott (Barbara) and daughter Susan (Alex) Samson along with six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Norman, Gordon, Stuart and his wife Joanne of 61 years in 2016. The family would like to thank his caretaker and buddy Tracie Kleinsmith, who brightened his day and kept him in line. Thanks also to Karen, Al and the hospice community. A memorial service officiated by Reverend James Stanley will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at Paine Funeral Home, Inc., 140 E p.m. Main St., Orwell, OH 44076. Visitation will take place prior to the memorial service from 5:00 – 5:45 p.m. Interment will be in Horseheads, NY at the convenience of the family. Condolences may be made at painefuneralhome.com
