Rock Creek - Virgil P. Martin, age 90, died peacefully at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, with his family by his side. He was born in Rock Creek, Ohio on November 7, 1935, the son of Fredrick Martin and Johanna (Brandt) Martin. He was married to his first wife, Joyce (Bowen) Martin on September 10, 1955, in Rock Creek and they remained together until her unexpected passing in 1973. Virgil married his wife of 52 years, Beverly (Beckwith) Martin on September 29, 1973. Virgil was a lifelong truck driver, owning and operating Martin Brothers Milk Cartage with his brother, retiring after 51 years. He was a long time Morgan Township Trustee, served on the South Central Ambulance District Board and a member of Morgan Hose Volunteer Fire Department and Rock Creek Conservation Club. Virgil also assisted with the building of the Rock Creek Union Cemetery Chapel. Virgil found a passion for making wine, which he enjoyed sharing with many friends and family over the years. Virgil is survived by his wife, four children; Kathie (Randy) Williams of Lebanon, Tennessee, Gail (Ken) Davis of Oxford, Mississippi, William Martin of Geneva, Ohio, Kelli (Stephen) Alspaugh of Bryan, Ohio and his son-in-law William Claycomb of Rock Creek, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Joyce, his son Scott Martin, daughter Brenda Claycomb. As well as six brothers, Walter Martin, Rudolph Martin, Reinhold Martin, Arthur Martin, Harold Martin, Fred Martin and three sisters Esther Martin, Erna Krause and Mildred Keeney.
A funeral service officiated by Virgil’s grandson Conner Davis will be held at Union Cemetery Chapel, Stiles Avenue, Rock Creek, Ohio 44084 on Wednesday, May 27th at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held the day before at Paine Funeral Home, Inc., 140 E. Main Street, Orwell, OH 44084 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The family request, instead of sending flowers, make memorial contributions to Union Cemetery, P.O. Box 49, Rock Creek, OH 44084.
