Vera Lee Sommers

Saybrook Twp. - Vera Lee Sommers, age 80, died on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Lake Pointe Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Conneaut.  She was born to Lowell Allen and Harriet Irene (Smith) Sommers in Painesville, OH on March 7, 1942. Vera, an avid genealogist for over 35 years, was a longtime member of the Ashtabula County Genealogical Society. She was descended from very early settlers of the Western Reserve along both parental lines and was a member of the Stanley Redmond Harper chapter of the DAR. Her most important research is an extensive “East Trumbull Family Tree.” Vera graduated from Rock Creek High School in 1960 and spent many years serving on the executive committee of the Rock Creek Alumni Association. Choosing to work with her hands, Vera was self-employed for most of her work life; she had previously been employed by Blue Lakes Farm, where she trained horses, competed in show-jumping, and taught riding skills to young equestrians. A lifetime horse lover, she also had a passion for old movies, classical music, and creating art. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Harriet, brother Donald, and several aunts and uncles.

A private committal of her ashes will take place at East Trumbull Cemetery. A public celebration of life will be held at Morgan Hose Volunteer Fire Department, 3033 E.
