Robert Zannetti

ORWELL- Robert Zannetti, age 95, passed away October 18, 2023 after a brief illness. He was born in Derry, PA, on June 12, 1928, the son of Fred and Santa Zannetti. He enlisted in the US Navy after graduation from Derry Borough High School and served aboard the USS Rochester and USS Missouri as a gunners mate. He returned to Derry after discharge, where he met his wife, Phyllis. They married in 1951 and enjoyed 53 years together. Bob worked at Kennametal in Latrobe, PA. In 1960 he was transferred to Orwell, Ohio to help establish the Kennametal plant there. He was the quality control manager until his retirement. Bob was very active in the community. A member of St. Mary’s Church for over 60 years, he remained active on the Building and Grounds Committee into his 80s. He also served on the Village Council and was a member of the Orwell Volunteer Fire Department.  He was proud of the growth of the Orwell Boy Scout troop while he served as scoutmaster. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, golf, and woodworking. He loved to tell stories of his life to family and friends. He is survived by his daughter Robin (Gary) Bolender of North Kingsville and son Mark (Kimberly) Zannetti of Chesterland. Also surviving are grandchildren Jennifer Armstrong, Sean Bolender, Christopher and Hannah Zannetti and great-grandchildren Genevieve and Amelia Bolender. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, and siblings Raymond, Anthony and Eugene Zannetti, Ida Cromling, and Rosalie Smith.

A funeral service officiated by Father Kevin McCaffrey will be held at Paine Funeral Home, Inc. 140 E. Main Street, Orwell, OH 44076 on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 12:00 p.m., followed with a committal service and U.S. Navy Honors at Orwell North Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Orwell Volunteer Fire Department P.O.
