Lawrence Eugene Bottoms

Orwell - Lawrence (Larry) Bottoms, age 71, died at his home in Orwell on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. He was the son of Clayton and Virginia Whirley (Culbertson) born September 30, 1950, in New Paris, OH. Larry was married to his wife Peggy Bottoms on July 26, 1974, and they have lived in Orwell for the last 24 years. He graduated from Indiana University in 1972 and was an avid Hoosier basketball and football fan.

After working for JCPenney for nearly 34 years in various roles, Larry became involved in the local community, serving on the Orwell Village Council and later as Mayor. He was also a member of the Rotary Club and the Old Brick Historical Society and has served on the Grand Valley Festival committee as well as the Ashtabula County Health Board. Larry is survived by his wife Peggy, his son Andy (Jenn) Bottoms and his two grandchildren (Hannah and Mallory) of Cincinnati, OH, sisters Priscilla Elliott of Richmond, IN and Tina (Dallas) Combs of Hamilton, OH, brother Roger (Leanne) Whirley of Richmond, IN, Aunts Patty Simpson and Jane Stapleton, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Visitation will take place from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2022, at Paine Funeral Home, Inc., 140 E. Main Street, Orwell, OH 44076. A memorial and committal service of his ashes will be held in Indiana at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Orwell Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
