Julia B. Leonard

Port St. Lucie - Julia B (Knapik) Leonard, age 102, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at Emerald Health Care Nursing Home in Port St Lucie, FL. She was born on November 10, 1917 in Graceton, PA the daughter of Steve and Victoria (Smerk) Knapik. Julia was a long time resident of Colebrook, OH and a member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Orwell. She spent the last years of her life in Port St. Lucie, Florida with her daughter Nancy and two sons, Donald and Joseph David. Julia was a homemaker and loving mother. The most important passion of her life was caring for her family. She married her husband Joseph, in Fort Bragg NC on March 17, 1944. Julia was a military wife, a military sister and a military mother. She was a great cook and baker, she loved her family Slovak traditions. She is survived by her four children Donald J. Leonard of FL, Barbara A. (Daniel) Barton of VA, Nancy M.  Leonard and Joseph D. Leonard of FL. Julia has two granddaughters Shannon (Michael) Morisi of VA, Nicole M. Leonard of OH and two great-grandsons Dominic and Daniel Morisi. She was known as Aunt Jay to her many nieces and nephews, whom she loved. The Leonard Farm was a great family gathering place. She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 1996, her siblings to include five sisters and one brother. Due to the COVID-19 virus there will be two services. A funeral mass officiated by Rev. John P. Madden will be held at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 103 N. Maple Street, Orwell, OH 44076 on Friday, July 10, 2020 at 1:30 p.m., burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, visitation will take place at church prior to mass from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. A separate mass will be held at St. Julian of Norwich Old Catholic Church, Fort Pierce, FL. Arrangements for the Orwell Services are being entrusted to Paine Funeral Home, Inc., Orwell, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to St. Mary Church, P.O.
