Orwell – Joseph Bernard Shoaf, age 89, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at University Hospital Geauga Medical Center. He was born on September 16, 1929 in Connellsville, PA the son of Joseph and Julia (Pollak) Shoaf. Joseph was married to Dolores Jean ( Zagursky ) Shoaf on August 17, 1949 and was a Korean War Veteran. He was a teacher and Principal at Grand Valley Local Schools and Principal at Ledgemont School District. He worked in education for over 40 years and started the Grand Valley Football Program. He was a member of St. Mary Church and Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.
Survivors include his sons Joseph M. Shoaf of Southgate, MI, Michael G. (Lisa) Shoaf of Rocky River, grandchildren Michael, Madeleine, Victoria, Jenna, and Joseph Shoaf. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Gilbert, James, Jake and Bernard, and sister Genevieve Shoaf.
A funeral mass officiated by Rev. John P. Madden will be held on March 14, 2019 at St. Mary Church, 103 N. Maple Street, Orwell, OH 44076, 11:00 a.m. with US Army Honors and burial to follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Paine Funeral Home, Inc. 140 E. Main Street, Orwell, OH on March 13, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Concluding with a Knights of Columbus Service at 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Church.
