Joan R. Smith

Rock Creek – Joan R. Smith, age 94, passed away at Austinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Monday, November 8, 2021. She was born on September 9, 1927 in Stratton, OH the daughter of Ruby and Grace (Rymer) Hayes. Joan married Kenneth R. Smith on May 17, 1946 and worked as the Village Clerk of Rock Creek from 1970 to 1992. She received the Rock Creek Citizen of the Year Award and was the former secretary for Rock Creek Alumni Association. Joan graduated from Rock Creek High School in 1945. She said that picking grapes and tying them was her favorite thing to do. Joan is survived by her daughter Constance D. Mracek, grandsons Kenneth (Mary Ann) and Kevin (Cherie) Mracek, great grandchildren Emily (Korey) Hayes, Nicholas Mracek, great great grandson Austin Hayes, sisters Linda Hayes, Elsie Bertleff, brothers Duane (Kathy Perry) Hayes and Larry Hayes, several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband Kenneth R. Smith, sisters Phyllis Cocitto, Nancy Nelson, Anita Gordon, Betty Elliot, brother John and James T. Hayes. A funeral service officiated by Pastor Luke Meadows III be held at the Union Cemetery Chapel, Stiles Ave, Rock Creek, OH 44084 on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., visitation will take place from 10:00 am till time of service.
