Orwell- Ervin E. “Red” Byler, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at his home surrounded by family.
He was born on November 9, 1934 in Middlefield the son of John S. and Elizabeth (Miller) Byler.
Red was employed as a mill operator with Burton Rubber and was a truck driver for RJ Barbe Trucking, in Bloomfield. After he retired, he enjoyed volunteering to deliver meals and helping Country Neighbor.
He enjoyed hunting, four-wheeling and fishing. In his later years he loved bird watching, having lunch with his friends at Country Neighbor and a good game of “penny dice.” Red would spend hours watching Jonathan Strazinsky’s garden scale trains, as they passed through the yard.
Mr. Byler is survived by his children, Barbara (Lenny) Klingensmith, of Orwell, Jim (Janis) Byler of Samak, UT, Rose (Rick) Moss of Savannah, GA, Paul (Kathy Forman) Byler of Lake Milton, and Lee (Paula) Byler of Colebrook;12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Joseph Byler of Wisconsin and John Byler of Middlefield; sisters, Emma Yoder of Huntsburg, Betty Yoder, Ada Detweiler, and Katie (Eli) Miller all of Middlefield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jerry Byler; and his sister, Saloma Hershberger.
Calling hours will be, Tuesday, June 7, 2022 from 6PM-9PM at Paine Funeral Home, 140 E. Main St., Orwell. A funeral service will be held, Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 11:00AM at the funeral home, with Pastor Bill Siekkinen, officiating. Burial will follow at Orwell North Cemetery.
