Rock Creek - Dorothy May Salaben, age 82, died peacefully during her sleep on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Geneva Village Retirement Home in Geneva OH. She was the daughter of Michael Salaben and Dorothy Burgess Salaben, born on May 1, 1937, in Cleveland Ohio. Having the same first name as her mother, she was always known by friends and family as “May.” May moved to Ashtabula County in the late 1950s, and worked various jobs such as an au pair, waitress, house cleaner and factory worker until the 1970s when she began working for Rock Creek Elementary School, and in the 1980s at Jefferson High School. In the 1990s May worked at various nursing homes and as an in-house health care assistant. May loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and helping others whenever she could. Her hobbies included: arts and crafts, collecting, reading, and listening to Elvis. She attended various churches in Ashtabula County and was proud to support the Red Cross blood drives. She is survived by her two children: Michael Salaben of Ashtabula Oh, Matthew Salaben of Long Beach CA; and 5 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Marie Cady Salaben, and her son, Mark Salaben.
A memorial service officiated by Elder Douglas Camp will be held, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 15, 2020, at the Rock Union Cemetery Chapel, Stiles Ave., Rock Creek, Ohio 44084. A luncheon will follow the service at 12:00 p.m., Sacred Heart Church, 3049 N. Main Street (Rt. 45), Rock Creek, Ohio 44084. Condolences may be made a painefunerahome.com
