David William Runion Sr.

Orwell Twp - David W. Runion, Sr., age 92, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Burton Health Care. David was born in Tiffin, Ohio on May 22, 1926, the son of Everette Runion and Gladys L. Hathaway. This announcement comes with great sadness from the family. 

David was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, stationed on Guam and later Whidbey Island, WA.  After the war, he returned to his home in Ohio where he met and married Iona J. Kogler. David worked in the steel and plastics industry; eventually retiring from Newbury Industries.  

In his youth David played baseball and the drums.  Later in life he joined bowling teams, enjoyed fishing, golfing, flying his remote control plane and taught himself to play the guitar.  He loved cats and at one time owned 14 cats which became his favorite topic of conversation.  David was also a Christian and liked to share his faith with others.

David cared deeply for his family and friends.  He will be lovingly remembered by those who knew him and by his children, Barbara Faris of Warren, Linda Golding of Chagrin Falls, David W. Runion, Jr., of Burton and Carol M. Rickard of Warren, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Iona J. (Kogler) Runion, his sister Laura Nagle.

A memorial service officiated by Rev. John Gehring-Anders will be held at the Paine Funeral Home, Inc. 140 E. Main Street, Orwell, OH 44076 on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 1:00 pm. A private committal of his ashes will take place at a later date at the Orwell North Cemetery.
