David Harley Bailey, age 77, of N. Bloomfield Ohio, died on Thursday, November 26th, 2020 at University Hospital Geauga Medical Center, Chardon Ohio. He was the son of Homer Emerson Bailey, Jr. and Ruth Doris Huntley, born September 9, 1943 in Warren, Ohio. David married, Barbora Bailey on November 24th 2005. David was a Navy veteran, Grade E-5, he would proudly say he served 5yrs. 3mons. 21days, November 6, 1964 to October 8, 1969. He was a communications specialist. He was stationed in Iceland and Derry, N. Ireland, where he met his first wife. He also was stationed in Albany, Georgia before moving back to Ohio in 1969. David retired as owner of Grand River Transportation. He was a gifted people-person and prided himself in great attention to customer service which rewarded him with very loyal customers. He officially retired but continued to drive occasionally to stay busy and just because he enjoyed it. He was so fond of the big rigs that he built himself an impressive heated garage to house his prize International Cab-Over and Kenworth W900. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and everyone loved him, he will be remembered for his smile, his jokes and laughter, but most especially his big hugs. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Orwell, Ohio where he served on parish council, greeter and usher. He recently became a member of the Moose Lodge. David is survived by his loving wife, Barbora, his children; David Scott Bailey of Traveler’s Rest, SC; Lisa Marie (Bryan) Karr of Woodstock, GA; Erin Bailey (Charles) Boden of Marietta, GA and Karen Elaine Bailey of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Lesa Ughrin (Jeff) Carson of Mantua, OH; Lori (Joe) Steen of Orwell, OH and Jennifer (Mike) Purcell of Bucyrus, OH, his siblings Virginia (David) Anthony of Bristolville, OH; Valerie (William) Lynch of Sandusky, OH; Chester Bailey of Southington, OH; and Barry (Shela) Bailey of Orwell, OH. David leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Mercedes and Casey Karr, Lauren and Cameron Boden, Andrew Ughrin, Michael, Ashley and Brittany Purcell, Kailha Gallagher, Tom and Elizabeth Carson, five great-grandchildren: Jacob Robert Ray Karr and Evie-Marie Bailey Karr, Landon, Lailah and Lailani Blanton. David was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Doris Bailey and his father, Homer Emerson Bailey Jr.
Public Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 5th at St. Mary’s Church, 103 Maple Street, Orwell, OH 44076. Catholic Mass officiated by Rev. John P. Madden will be held immediately following visitation at 11:00 a.m. A committal service with military honors will then take place at Meadow Brook Memorial Park in Champion OH, with entombment to follow. The family requests memorial contributions instead of flower in care of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church PO Box 217, Orwell, OH 44076. The mass will be live streamed on Facebook.
