Coy Wilson Obituary

New Lyme Twp. – Coy Wilson, age, 87, passed into immortality on Friday November 27, 2020, surrounded by loving family members. He was born May 18, 1933 on a mountain top in Stoney Creek, TN to George and Maude (née Bullock). Growing up in hard times, Coy quit school in the eighth grade to help support his family. But that did not end his education as he remained an avid reader throughout his life. He worked in construction and even provided protection for rich city folk, but eventually moved to Cleveland, OH and worked at General Motors with his brother Paul for 30 years. Upon retirement, he spent another decade working with Paul and son Rick at The Holden Arboretum. Coy, being a true country soul, loved the simple things in life. He possessed a mountain of wisdom and had a great sense of humor. He loved farming, Nascar, western movies, and dachshunds. Although he couldn’t sing or play an instrument (a trait passed on to his four children) he deeply loved to listen to music. In his later years, the family hosted hundreds of people at the annual “Wilson Party” for 20 years. Coy was often the centerpiece of the parties, portraying iconic characters such as Elvis Presley and Tiny Tim. There he could be seen laughing, entertaining, and inventing new unnamable dance moves! He loved his family, he loved his friends, he loved his community, he loved his dogs....He was loved and will be deeply missed. Coy is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty Janese (née Robinson), four children - Hildred (Larry) Armstrong of Chardon, Rick (Roseann) of New Lyme, Cynthia Reeves of Greene and Michael (Ginny) of Decatur Alabama, grandchildren Teresa, Tom, Tammy, Christina, Larry Jr, Billie Jo, Coy, Cody, Hayleigh, Nicki, Rachel, Karmen, Janese, Hillary, Kathryn, and Michael Jr. Beyond that, he has 35 great-grandchildren, 21 great-great-grandchildren, and many others who referred to him as “grandpa Coy”, sister Katie Jenkins of Hampton, Tennessee, sister-in-law Betty Wilson of Kirtland, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Maude Wilson, his parents-in-law Blaine and Nora Robinson, siblings Anna, Walter, Elbert, Paul, great granddaughter Tara Schultz, and son-in-law Al Reeves.

A funeral service officiated by his son Pastor Mike Wilson will be held at the Paine Funeral Home, Inc. 140 E.
