Cloyce H. “Speedy” Griffin, 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2026, with his
family by his side. Cloyce was born on March 6, 1930 in East Orwell, Ohio. He was the son of
Clarence H. and Elvie R. (Sweet) Griffin.
Cloyce married Delores A. (Marks) Griffin on February 17, 1964. They shared 57 years of
marriage until her death in 2021. He was employed as a maintenance supervisor at Kay
Dee Mfg. He was a member of the Orwell American Legion Post #719, the Grand Valley
Ruritan Club and served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954. Cloyce was also a
semi-professional steel guitar player. He played for many dances and events. In his younger
years he played on the radio, had a fan club and even played the steel guitar with Hank
Williams, Sr. one time.
Cloyce was a devoted father and grandfather. He always went to his granddaughter’s sports
games and events. He also enjoyed following Grand Valley’s sporting events and he loved
giving rides on his John Deere tractors. Above all, he very much cherished his time with his
family, always reminding them of how much he loved them.
Cloyce is survived by his three daughters, Melody (Darryl) Sprague, Valerie Griffin and Garnet
(Bret) Duris; granddaughters, Keshia (Jerry) Bales and Jennifer (Justin) Kelly; great-grandchildren, Elowen and Elias Bales, Courtney and Kinsley Kelly.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Delores A. Griffin; brothers Elmo, Sewell, Dale and Laurel Griffin; and his sister Ethelyn Rhoades.
Calling hours will be held Friday, June 5, 2026 from 10:00AM until 11:45AM at the Paine Funeral Home, Inc., 140 E. Main St., Orwell where at service will immediately follow at 12:00NOON with Rev. Jason Banar, officiating. Burial will follow at Orwell North Cemetery, where military honors will be observed.
Memorials in his memory may be given to Grand Valley Ruritan Club or Orwell American Legion Post #719.
