Carl A. Hornung

Rome – Carl A. Hornung, age 99, died on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at David Simpson Hospice House, Cleveland. He was born December 24, 1921 in Berlin Hts. the son of John and Charlotte (Bricker) Hornung. Carl was married to Helen (Schlarb) Hornung on June 12, 1948 and was a US Army Veteran. He worked as an electrician for C. E. Tyler for 27 years, a member of Orwell American Legion Post 719, served on the Rome Twp. Zoning Board and Rome Volunteer Fire Department. Carl enjoyed woodworking, hunting and trapping. He is survived by his children Carl “Jim” (Donna) Hornung, John Hornung, and Karen Sardella, grandchildren Jeremy (Marie), Jonathan (Laura) Michael, Jason (Sara) Hornung, Steven (Lynn), Ryan (Michelle) Sardella, Sarah (Stephen) Kenny, Rebekah (Troy) Mooney, daughter-in-law Kathy (Dale Bucar) Hornung and eight great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife Helen, son Gerald, brother John Hornung, sisters Katie Bauer and Grace Koprek. The family would like to send a special thank you for the help with Carl’s care to Abri Jones, Kim Valenti, Lori Cumberledge, Sarah Kenny, Rebekah Hornung and Karen Sardella and Hospice of the Western Reserve.

The visitation will be held Tuesday, April 27th 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral service officiated by Erin Valenti will take place at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 28th at Paine Funeral Home, Inc., 140 E. Main Street, Orwell, OH 44076. US Army military honors will conclude the service at the funeral home. A private burial of Carl’s ashes will take place at a later date at Rome Center Cemetery. The family has requested to not send flowers. They would like memorial contributions to be made in care of Carl Hornung to South Central Ambulance District (SCAD) 3100 US Highway 6, Rome, OH 44085.
