Richard E Hopes

Orwell - Richard E Hopes, age 82 passed away on April 13, 2018 at his home. He was born on March 13, 1936 in Orwell the son of the late Helen (Himrod) and Alex Hopes. Dick retired from Kennametal, but was really a farmer at heart and loved farming with his Farmall tractors which he collected.  He often helped neighboring farmers and was just happy to get out in the fields. He enjoyed life to its fullest, and after retirement Dick and his wife Joanne, whom he called “his honey” traveled everywhere they could including Europe. Dick loved meeting people and visiting with anyone who would chat with him. Often he just enjoyed going for a drive and looking at the sites and always finding a different return route. He showed his community support by serving as Orwell Township Trustee for five years and the zoning board of appeals. He was a long time member of Farm Bureau and served on the Board of Directors.  Dick enjoyed the Antique Engine Club and participating with his tractors. He was also a member of the Cattlemen's Association. In his later years, after retirement, Dick enjoyed being a part-time driver for Preston Superstore in Burton. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Joanne (Kaminski) Hopes, daughters Robin (Don) Hofer and Kathy (Jeff) Lynn. His stepchildren, Michelle and Tracie Kellison, sisters, Ginny (Dick) Simonson, Dorothy Hare, Liz Waters and a brother Bill (Vicki) Hopes, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son David who died in 2017. Funeral Service officiated by Rev. John Gehring-Anders will be held at the Orwell North Presbyterian Church, 135 N. Maple Street, Orwell OH on Wednesday, April 18th at 11:00am. Visitation will be held prior to service from 9:45 to 10:45am.  Memorial Contributions can be made in Dick's name to Orwell North Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are being handled by Paine Funeral Home, Orwell, OH.
