Wayne Township -- Norman “Norm” T. Phillips, age 84, passed away on July 12th, 2018 in Marietta, GA due to complications following cancer.
Norm was born on November 4, 1933 in Rotterdam, N.Y., to his parents, Franklin and Nettie Phillips. Norm was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He married Grace L. Phillips and he had lived in Wayne Township for the past 32 years. In his younger years, Norm owned a salvage yard in Rome and a gas station in Rock Creek, Ohio. In the latter years of his life, he enjoyed going to auctions and collecting antiques and equipment. He was also an avid gardener.
Norm is survived by two of his children; Thomas (Amanda) Phillips of Acworth, GA, Connie (Aaron) Petrus of Dallas, GA; one grandson, Edward Lipps of Andover; five grandchildren in Georgia; two Step-daughters of Rock Creek; Anita Campbell and Gwen Davis; and 8 step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years; Grace L. Phillips; three sons; Norman Phillips Jr., Calvin Phillips, and Frankie Phillips; daughter, Janet Phillips; as well as five sisters; and a brother.
Visitation will take place from 10:00A.M. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 19th, 2018 at the Paine Funeral Home, 140 E. Main St., Orwell, OH 44076. Funeral services will follow 11:00 A.M., and will be officiated by Pastor Bob and Lori Coleman. Burial will follow at Rome Center Cemetery.
