Gordon “Bill” White, a life-long resident of Windsor, Ohio, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at the age of 79. Gordon was born April 16, 1940 at the family residence in Windsor, Ohio. He was the son of the late Roy White and Dorothy Scott Harshman. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, who he married January 22, 1966; daughter, Cory White; son, Gordon “Paul” White (Doreen); seven grandchildren, Hannah White, Marissa White, Dominic White, Erin Bragg, Marcene Bragg, Alanna Bragg, and Luis Guevara; sister, Joan West; two brothers, Gale White and Wally White; and his faithful companions, Audie and Petrie. Gordon was a career military man and retired from the United States Navy in 1975 as a DK-1. During his time in the Navy, Gordon served in Vietnam, Operation Deep Freeze (Antarctica) in 1967 - 1971 and Okinawa, Japan in 1972. He was a plank owner of the USS Texas CGN 39 as he was the third crew member assigned to the ship. He also received the Sailor of the Quarter award while stationed at the Federal building in Cleveland, Ohio. After retiring from the military, Gordon worked for the Grand Valley Local School District as a bus mechanic. Gordon did extensive volunteer work during his lifetime. He served as a baseball coach and a Boy Scout Leader. He was a long-time member of the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department and an EMT. He also volunteered as a trainer for the Grand Valley football team attending daily practices as well as games. He also assisted with the equipment maintenance and field striping. Gordon was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed growing and hybridizing daylilies and hostas. Among his favorites were the ones he named “Hanna Banana” and “Rissy Roo” after two of his grandchildren.
A funeral service officiated by Pastor Laurie Krieg will be held Monday, November 18, 2019, 12:00 p.m. at Windsor United Methodist Church, 5161 Rt. 322, Windsor, OH 44099, with U.S. Navy Honors and burial at the Windsor Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the church prior to service from 11:00 am to 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Windsor United Methodist Church.
