Gary E. Shipman

N. Bloomfield - Gary E. Shipman, age 64, went to be with the Lord Wednesday November 13, 2019 with his loving family by his side following a long battle with cancer. He was the son of the late James and Daisy (Sprague) Shipman born September 21, 1955.  Gary graduated from Maplewood HS in Mecca in 1973. On April 7, 1979 Gary married the love of his life, Betty (Elwood) Shipman and were blessed with 40 years of marriage.  Memories of Gary will be carried on and cherished by his children Mitchell (Donna) Shipman of Kent, Melissa Shipman of N. Bloomfield; two brothers, James Shipman of Weston, MO and Larry Shipman of N. Bloomfield; sister in-law Jane Shipman of N. Bloomfield; 2 grandsons Glen and Boyd.  He was preceded in death by his brother Richard Shipman.

Gary worked at Kennametal in Orwell, OH where he earned his journeyman’s card and worked as a machinist.  He loved his job and retired from Kennametal after 43 years of service. Gary loved fishing and spending time with his family and friends.  He also enjoyed bowling, gardening, wood working, playing cards and reading. Gary was a Lake Erie charter captain (Sunshine Fishing Charters), secretary and treasurer of the N. Bloomfield Optimist club and attended N. Bloomfield United Methodist Church

A funeral service officiated by Pastor Jody Baker will take place at the Paine Funeral Home, Inc., 140 E. Main Street, Orwell OH 44076 on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. A private committal of his ashes will take place at a later date.  Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Monday, November 18, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
