Elwin Easton Jr. Obituary

Colebrook Twp. - Elwin C Easton Jr. (Junior), 98, died peacefully at his home on Monday September 24, 2018, with his loving family by his side. The son of Elwin C Easton Sr. and Gladys Zumbrum, Junior was born on September 11, 1920 in Colebook, Ohio.

He was married to his devoted wife, Wilma (Howard) Easton on August 25, 1940. Together they raised six children on their farm in Colebrook. He was a kind and dedicated father. A man with integrity and boundless energy, who even at the age of 98 was still mowing his own lawn and enjoying his new hobby of making applesauce.

While in high school, Junior started his own sawmill business.  His business was put on hold as he served his country as a Fireman First Class with the US Navy aboard the USS Soubarissen, during WWII. After an honorable discharge, he returned to his sawmill business and along with his father started a building supply company and built many houses in Orwell and the surrounding areas. Later his two brothers also joined the company. From there, the Culligan franchise was established.  He retired after 41 years from the water business in 1998.

Elwin was a lifetime member of the Colebrook United Methodist Church, Orwell American Legion, the Masonic Lodge and the VFW.  He taught Sunday school at the church for many years and served on the Colebrook School Board. He was a true philanthropist and supported many worthy causes.

Junior is survived by two brothers: Alvin Easton of Wilmington, NC and Lester Easton of Sun City, FL;  his children:  Harland, Lawrence (Darlene), Leland (Cecilia) Easton,  all of Colebrook; Judie (Richard) Loveless, and Paul Easton of Barwick, GA. and Darl Easton (Janna) of Euless TX. He will be missed by his 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 10 great- great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Wilma of 73 years; his sisters:  Marjorie Rex, Ila Mae Nicholes,  Wyonita Adams and brother, Milven Easton.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 30th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm at Paine Funeral Home, 140 East Main St., Orwell, Ohio 44076. The funeral service will be officiated by his great grandson, the Rev.
