Orwell Twp. - Dorothy Ilona Kovach, age 81, died at her son and daughter in law’s home after a long illness on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 with her family by her side. She was born on July 20, 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio to Jack and Josephina Bernick (Matejovie). She married her husband, Zoltan (Zolie) Kovach on February 12, 1962 in Fort Payne, Alabama.
Dorothy spent her early years working as a secretary for the Standard Oil Company in Cleveland before raising her children. She then went back to work at Kennametal until her retirement in 2000.
The family moved from Cleveland to Windsor, Ohio when their children were young to raise them in the country that they both loved so much. The greatest joy in her life were her children and grandchildren. Dorothy loved animals, especially her dogs and cats. Her hobbies included cake decorating, growing flowers, hosting family gatherings, reading, drives with her husband, and travelling to visit her daughter in California.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Nick (Christine) Kovach of Orwell, daughter Suzan (Jason) Webb of San Jose, California, her granddaughter Kelsey, and her grandson Cole, and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, Elsie Karaba and Ethel Hansen, and one brother, John Bernick.
Funeral services will be officiated by the Rev. Dan Greenfield. They will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Paine Funeral Home, Inc., 140 E. Main Street, Orwell, Ohio 44076. Burial will immediately follow at the Orwell South Cemetery on Moore Road. Visitation will take place from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018.
