Windsor – Raymond “Ray” Russell Hammon, age 99 passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024 at David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland. He was born February 26, 1925 in Cleveland the son of Ezra and Florence (Miller) Hammon. Ray married Sara A. “Sally” (Drown) Hammon on March 30, 1956. They were married for 67 years. He worked at Chardon Rubber as a Banbury Operator, part-time mail carrier, and well after retirement he enjoyed opening and working at the gas station at the End of the Commons General Store in Mesopotamia. Ray was a member of the Windsor United Methodist Church, Friends of the Library, Windsor Historical Society, founding member of the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department serving as the Assistant Fire Chief, Officer and Hall of Fame member of the Warren Men’s Bowling Association. He was a devout member of the Triandria Lodge No. 780, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason, past Master and more than a 50-year member, Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland where he received the Meritorious Service Award and AL Koran Shriner. He was an avid Cleveland Indians and GV sports fan. Ray was an avid bowler for over 85 years. He enjoyed attending all his children’s, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities. He also liked going to Orwell Concerts in the Park. Ray was very proud to have served his country as an Armed Guard of the United States Navy during WWII and attending fellowship meetings with other veterans throughout the years. Ray is survived by his children Russ (Sue) Hammon of Orwell, Chris (Cheryl) Hammon of Hartsgrove, Kim Hammon of Middlefield, Lee (Carolynn) Hammon of Chardon, grandchildren Jennifer (Robert) Benn, Jim (Elisabeth) Hammon, Eric Hammon, Kyle (Michelle) Hammon, great grandchildren Sean and Damon Hammon, Justin, Ryan, Kaiden Benn, Bryson and Colton Hammon. Preceded in death by his wife Sara A. Hammon parents Ezra and Florence (Miller) Hammon, infant daughter Beverly Hammon, siblings Roger, Grace, Arlene, Robert and Phil.
Calling hours will be held at the Paine Funeral Home, Inc., 140 E. Main Street, Orwell, OH 44076 on Sunday, March 24, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. At 3:00 p.m. a Masonic Service will be held to conclude calling hours. A funeral service officiated by Pastor Cathy McIlvain will be held at Windsor United Methodist Church, 5161 Route 322, Windsor, OH 44099 on Monday, March 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with U.S. Navy Honors closing the service. A private committal service of his ashes will be held at Windsor Cemetery at a later date.
