Frank Soukenik, 99, of North Bloomfield Twp., passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Vista at Mineral Ridge. He was born on March 13, 1918 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of Josef and Josephine (Dusek) Soukenik. Frank attended Bloomfield School.
Frank was a United States Army Veteran, and served honorably during World War II in the Battle of the Bulge and Normandy. He retired after 43 years as a foreman with U.S. Gypsum. Frank enjoyed gardening, flowers, fishing and hunting. He was a member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church his entire life, where he served on the council, chairman of St. Mary Bingo and was a member of the Men’s Social Club.
Mr. Soukenik is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Louise R. Soukenik, whom he married on May 14, 1949; sons, Gregory A. (Julie), David P. (Terri) and Michael A. (Denise) Soukenik; sister, Cecilia Romancek; grandchildren, Jennifer L., Tristan K., David M., Andrew T., Callan Y., and Dane M. Soukenik; great-grandchildren, Avery, Brinley, Trey and one on the way; and step-grandchildren, Michael and Amy Curtis and , Timothy Alexander.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Anna Soukenik; sisters, Lillian Soukenik and Mary Jackson; brothers, Joseph and John Soukenik.
A calling hour will be held, Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 10-11 at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 103 N. Maple St., Orwell where mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Fr. John Madden, officiating. US Army Honors will be observed after the mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Frank may be given to St. Mary Catholic Church.
