Rock Creek –Dorothy Frances (Slussar) Highlander, age 90, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Jefferson Health Care. She was the daughter of Freeland Slussar and Maude McCartney, born April 27, 1927, in Shinnston, WV.
Dorothy was a longtime resident of Rock Creek, where she was known as Mom or Granny Highlander by many. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, going to the Morgan Hose Fire Department in Rock Creek and listening to the Thursday night Jam Session. She liked to play bingo and loved her church and her church family. She was a member of Eagleville Bible Church.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Betty (Bill) Cooper of Rome, Benson Highlander of Jefferson, Carl (Brenda) Highlander of Rock Creek, Brian Highlander of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Shirley (Dave) VanSlyke of Salisbury, N.Carolina, Jim (Connie) Highlander of Oil City, Pennsylvania, Brenda (Kelly) Wilson of Seminole, Oklahoma, Tammy (Bob) Hill of Rome, and 35 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several nices and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Carl Highlander, three daughters, Della Burns, Barbara Chancey, and Sharon Chilson.
Funeral Service will be officiated by Rev. Steve Arsulic and her grandson Rev. Samuel VanSlyke at the Paine Funeral Home, Inc., 140 E. Main Street, Orwell, OH 44076 on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 12:00 pm, burial will follow at Rock Creek Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to services from 11:00 am till time of service.
